Incan Girl Who Had Been Frozen For 500 Years.
Well initially this might look to you like any normal girl being treated by a doctor; the girl in the photo is not any normal living girl but the mummy of a 15 year old child who has been dead for about 500 years. She was discovered in 1999 near Llullaillaco's 6739 meter summit. An Argentine-Peruvian expedition found the perfectly preserved body and she was nicknamed "La doncella" which means “The maiden”. According to the Inca she was chosen to go and live with the gods. But in reality she was a sacrifice to the Inca Gods and had been viciously killed in the name of religion.
Scientists say that her organs are unbroken and it’s as if she had died just a few weeks ago. From testing the samples of her hair they could determine the type of diet she was on before her death. This unique discovery leads that the Incan fattened their children before killing them. Months or even years before the sacrifice pilgrimage these children were given diets which were those of the elite, consisting of maize and animal proteins. Guessing from the plight of the body, it is hardly believed that she was drugged and left to die in the mountains.
It would not have taken a great deal of time for her to die due to the high exposure. The Incan high priests took their victims to high mountain tops for sacrifice. As the journey was tremendously long and difficult, particularly so for the younger victims, coca leaves were fed to them to aid them in their breathing so as to allow them to reach the burial site alive. Upon reaching the burial site, the children were given an intoxicating drink to reduce pain, fear, and resistance, then killed them either by strangulation, a blow to their head or by leaving them to lose consciousness in the extreme cold and die of exposure. A lot of Inca children were offered as sacrifice during or after important events, such as the death of the Sapa Inca (who was the emperor) or during a famine. These sacrifices were known as capacocha.

Make Your Relationship Better in 15 Minutes
Distance really does make the heart grow fonder. Living hundreds of miles from your honey could be the best thing for your relationship, suggests new research from Cornell University.
Compared to couples who live in the same place, long-distance daters reported feeling 8 percent more committed and 3 percent more satisfied, the research shows. Geographically challenged pairs also felt less uncertainty about their relationship, disclosed more about themselves, and were more likely to have been together for 2 years or more.
Why? Distance forces you to work harder to stay in touch and close, explains study coauthor Crystal Jiang, Ph.D. And all of that meaningful communication leads to a greater sense of trust and mutual understanding, Jiang says.
Whether you’re living together or stuck on opposite sides of the country, the research suggests you should set aside at least 15 minutes every day to talk with your partner about the deeper stuff—goals for the coming weeks or months, your family, or your job. You may hang out every night, but if those hours are spent watching TV or staring at your iPads, your relationship will languish, the study authors indicate.
36 Facebook Rules You Must Know
Everyone has their Facebook pet peeves—but when are those peeves outright offenses? Arizona State University scientists recently aimed to find out.
Their first study used 44 students to create a list of 36 Facebook friendship rules. A second study used 593 subjects to narrow down which of these rules really mattered when it came to dealing with close, casual, and acquaintance-based friendships.
We list all 36 rules below, and highlight the top rules the second study deemed most important. Follow these guidelines, and prepare to have more friends than Stan Marsh.
RULE 1: Project yourself in a manner others would want to be associated with.
Basically, don’t be an A-hole. If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t type it. (In the time it took to update your status, you could have done one of these10-Second Health Checkups.)
RULES 2, 3, and 4: Don’t post anything that will hurt a friend’s image, career, or relationship.
Kegstands are for college—not for Facebook.
RULE 5: Respond immediately when someone leaves you a Facebook message.
Actually, no, we take that back. Do not do that.* It makes you look desperate—and you have a life—right?
*Unless it’s that hot chick from the gym. Then you can respond in 15 to 30 minutes.
RULE 6: Expect an immediate response from others when you post on their profiles.
We disagree here. They could be, you know, enjoying the outdoors! Cut ’em some slack. If it’s urgent, text.
RULE 7: Use privacy settings to control each friend’s level of access to your profile.
Step one: Realize this rule is way too time-consuming. Step two: Refer back to rule number one on this list.
RULE 8: Share information with close friends before posting it on Facebook.
If you propose to your girlfriend of 6 years and your brother doesn’t hear about it before your other 1,767 friends, he has the right to deck you.
RULE 9: Delete or block anyone who posts something that compromises your image.
Or just remove the offending post.
RULE 10: Apply offline social rules to your Facebook interactions.
Would you randomly flash your pecs to your boss? Then don’t upload them to your timeline.
RULE 11: Be aware that not everyone is honest while on Facebook.
If her photos are only taken from the shoulders and up, it’s a red flag.
RULE 12: Use common sense in your Facebook interactions.
We really wish this didn’t have to be a rule. Then we read this.
RULE 13: Monitor your photos to make sure they are flattering.
Just don’t use Instagram for your profile pic. Everyone knows that’s cheating.
RULE 14: Always present yourself positively but honestly on Facebook.
If you lie and say you have better abs than Blake Griffin, your buddies will most definitely call your bluff.
RULE 15: Know that all of your friends can potentially affect your Facebook image.
That’s code for: Don’t piss off anyone who has dirt on you.
RULE 16: Use Facebook to maintain your relationships.
But whatever you do, do not use is to break off relationships. (Click here for 39 Things Women Wish You Knew.)
RULE 17: Use Facebook to communicate happy birthday with friends.
You know, because all those random chicks you added during your freshman year in college will really appreciate it.
RULE 18: Wish your close friend happy birthday in some way other than Facebook.
Text, call, card in the mail, strippergram—anything is better than a mere Facebook notification.
RULE 19: Use Facebook to learn more about people you are just getting to know.
Go ahead, root through all 351 of her photos. She won’t mind.
RULE 20: Respect your friends’ time by not posting excess information on Facebook.
We really don’t care that you had a great sandwich for lunch. Or that your foot itches. Or that you went to the proctologist.
RULE 21: Meet new people by adding your close friends’ contacts as your own friends.
We disagree with this one. If you haven’t actually talked to someone, they don’t need to be your Facebook friend.
RULE 22: Only write on a friend’s wall if you are actually friends with them offline.
Otherwise you’ll look like a creepster.
RULE 23: Only send a friend a private message if you are actually friends with them offline.
Again, creep status.
RULE 24: Only comment on a friend’s photos if you are actually friends with them offline.
See rules 22 and 23.
RULE 25: Only use Facebook chat with people you are actually friends with them offline.
There’s no emoticon for “awkward silence.”
RULE 26: Communicate with your good friends using methods besides Facebook.
If you don’t do this already, you’re not a good friend.
RULE 27: Don’t add someone as a Facebook friend unless you meet them offline first.
It doesn’t matter how hot she is, how many “interests” you have in common, or how many mutual friends you have.
RULE 28: Always realize that Facebook can expose lies you have told people.
Like that time you told your girlfriend you “stayed in” on Friday night, but your Four Square check-ins said otherwise.
RULE 29: Remember information a friend posts about you can have real-world consequences.
As if all of those “people who were fired because of Facebook” stories haven’t told you this already.
RULE 30: If a friend deletes or untags themselves from a photo or post, do not repost it.
Unless that person stole your girlfriend, broke your heart, or pissed you off at a bar. Then they deserve it, so let them have it.
RULE 31: If you are ignoring someone’s message, do not commit other Facebook behaviors that will reveal you were on Facebook.
Especially Farmville.
No man will ever understand why women think it’s hot to rock the “duck face” in all of their profile pictures. (As for what she sees when she looks at your profile, click here for 20 Things She Notices about You.)RULE 32: Do not spend time trying to guess a friend’s motives for Facebook behaviors.
RULE 33: Do not confront anyone using a public component of Facebook.
There’s no need for 500 people to see your dirty laundry.
RULE 34: Do not say anything disrespectful about someone on Facebook.
That’s code for: Never post anything negative about your boss on Facebook. Higher-ups have eyes everywhere, and you will get busted. Case in point:This.
RULE 35: Do not let Facebook use interfere with getting your work done.
Unless you’re looking at the Men’s Health Facebook page.
RULE 36: Do not post information on Facebook that could be used against you.
Crazy Beauty Tricks That Really Work
Oatmeal
The best beauty fixes come from the most surprising places. Beer for your hair, anyone?
Many of today's top spa treatments take their cues from old-fashioned home remedies, and there's science to back up the ingredients' effectiveness. Take a look at our favorites.
Soothing and anti-inflammatory, oatmeal contains beta glucan, a soluble fiber that creates a thin, moisture-retaining film on the surface of the skin. Place a handful of whole oats in a clean washcloth and use a rubber band to secure it. Next, immerse it in a sinkful of warm water and squeeze the bag four or five times. Once the water is cloudy, splash it on your face and then air-dry. (If you must towel dry, pat as gently as possible.)

Avocado Oil
Avocado oil's abundant fatty acids help balance skin's moisture levels, and the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E protect skin from further damage. Combine equal parts avocado oil and evening-primrose oil (which supports collagen synthesis with its gamma linoleic acid) in a sealable bottle and shake to blend. Massage five or six drops into clean skin, and then cover your face with a warm washcloth for a minute to help the oils sink in.
Walnuts
Rich in oil, walnuts make for extra-gentle sloughing. Blend 1/4 cup shelled walnuts, 1/2 cup olive oil (for extra emollients), and a tablespoon of honey (to seal moisture into your skin) in a food processor set on a slow speed, creating a fine-particle scrub. Standing in the shower (if you're scrubbing your feet) or over a sink (if it's for your hands), work the mixture thoroughly over your skin for a couple of minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Oranges
The fruit acid loosens dead skin cells. Cut a fresh orange in half and squeeze the juice of one half into a bowl. Add 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1/4 cup olive oil and then blend into a moisture-rich scrub. Next, rub the exposed side of the other half of the orange over knees, elbows, heels, and any other dry spots. Last, rub in the sugar mixture to slough off dead skin. Rinse with warm water and pat skin dry.
Milk
The lactic acid in milk serves as a gentle skin exfoliant, while its natural fat content acts as a body moisturizer. Add a gallon of whole milk to a tubful of warm water and soak. It's a great alternative to sugar and salt scrubs, which may be too abrasive for people who suffer from eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin. If you prefer a fragranced bath, add 10 to 20 drops of an essential oil, such as lavender.
Eggs
Eggs' high protein content helps improve hair's resilience and luster. Whisk together 1 egg, 2 tablespoons coconut oil (rich in moisturizing fats), and 2 tablespoons sesame oil. Apply the mixture to dry hair and wrap a hot, moist towel around your head. Relax for 5 to 10 minutes. Without wetting hair first, work in a handful of shampoo, then rinse and condition your hair.
Apple-Cider Vinegar
The high acidity of apple-cider vinegar makes skin inhospitable to blemish-causing bacteria. Place a handful of parsley (a skin-clarifying herb) into a French press and cover it with 1/2 cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes, then plunge and let the liquid cool. Transfer to a spray bottle along with a splash of vinegar and four drops of tea tree oil (an antiseptic), shake well, and spritz on a freshly cleansed face. Store the spray bottle in the fridge.
Beer
Yeast and hops help to swell the hair shaft and plump the cuticle, adding volume. The acidity of the beer helps remove built-up product residue. In the shower, after you've shampooed, pour a bottle of beer over your hair. Rinse briefly with fresh water (the idea is to avoid the Eau de Barfly effect while retaining the beer's body-boosting benefits). A rich beer with a high yeast content works best. (Read: No light beer.)
Sour Cream
This thick dairy product makes a moisturizing mask and gentle exfoliant, since its lactic acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid) helps speed cell turnover, brightening dull complexions. Natural fats restore skin's moisture.
Using your fingers, smooth 1 to 2 tablespoons of cool, full-fat sour cream in a thin layer over your clean face and neck, avoiding the eye and lip areas. Wait 7 to 10 minutes, then remove the mask with a wet washcloth. Splash skin with warm water and pat dry.

Chamomile Tea
Use this soothing beverage to make a calming compress. A natural anti-inflammatory, chamomile reduces redness and puffiness around the eyes. It also soothes irritated complexions.
Soak a clean washcloth in cool chamomile tea steeped to a golden yellow and apply to the skin as a compress. (To treat puffy eyes only, roll the washcloth to create an eye pillow.) Rest the compress on your skin for at least 10 minutes before rinsing and drying.

Almond Oil
This nut oil makes a great hand moisturizer. With a light texture and loads of vitamin E, almond oil quickly penetrates dry skin and protects hands and nails from environmental damage.
Rub 1 teaspoon of oil into hands and cuticles. Wrap each hand in a small towel, and allow the oil to penetrate for at least 5 minutes. Wipe the excess oil off hands, but don't rinse them; any remaining oil will be absorbed over the next few minutes. Follow with a rich hand cream.

Kiwi
The high vitamin C levels in kiwi fight free-radical damage and even out skin texture. When scrubbed on the face, the seeds act as tiny exfoliators, leaving skin smooth.
Peel and slice a ripe kiwi, then mash the flesh thoroughly with a fork. With circular motions, work the kiwi paste onto a damp, clean complexion, avoiding the eye and lip areas. After 30 to 60 seconds of scrubbing, rinse skin with warm water and pat dry.

Olive Oil
Rich in vitamin E and fatty acids, olive oil is a Mediterranean-inspired favorite for moisturizing brittle and overstyled hair.
Before showering, comb several tablespoons of "light" olive oil (it will say so on the label) through hair, working from roots to ends. Cover hair with a shower cap. After showering for 5 to 7 minutes, remove the cap. Shampoo, rinse, and condition as usual. Hair will feel super soft.

3 Weight-Loss Apps That Work
Don’t have a workout buddy? Find one on your phone. Virtual social circles can help you lose weight—provided the process is fun, says a new study in JMIR Research Protocols.
Researchers asked people to keep a log of their daily fitness habits, requiring some participants to add a social game to their routine. Players earned points for tracking activity or setbacks, which were redeemable for rewards. After 10 weeks, participants who played the game exercised more often and decreased their body mass index more than regular exercisers.
The key to weight-loss success is adding little bit of playfulness to the mix, says lead researcher Marientina Gotsis, director of the Creative Media & Behavioral Health Center at the University of Southern California. Tracking your habits in a diary is effective, but adding in a fun aspect like a game can make your regimen easier to complete, she says.
To speed up your weight-loss goals, download this free PDF: The Truth About Calories
The game used in the study isn’t available to the public, but there are plenty of weight-loss apps that can help you hit your health goals—with a little help from your friends. Here are three of our favorites.
NexerciseReward-hungry workout warriors use Nexercise to rack up points—and prizes. Every 2 minutes spent sweating equals 10 points, and if you accumulate enough, you could win goods like Propel Fitness Water and an Amazon gift card. (Free for iOS and Android)
GymPactThis app hits you where it hurts: your wallet. You set how many days a week you’ll hit the gym and choose what you’re willing to pay if you don’t follow through (for example, you might sign up for 5 days a week, with $5 on the line each day). Every week, the money paid by non-exercisers who missed their workouts is divided and paid out to those who met their goals. You can’t cheat, either: GymPact keeps you honest by making you check into your gym via your smartphone each time you go. (Free for iOS and Android)
HealthRallyGot friends and family with dough? HealthRally lets them pledge money toward your success. Designate an end date and a motivating reward—like new running shoes or an iPad—and pick your supporters. The idea is kind of like Kickstarter: You keep your pals updated on your progress, and they pitch in for your prize. But if you don’t reach your end goal, all that cash goes back to your donors. (And you start avoiding family reunions.) (Free for iOS and Android)

Eating mix of fruits, veggies may cut lung cancer risk
We've all heard the expression, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." And for years, we've known that at least in spirit, it's somewhat true. Fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and nutritionists say they contain ingredients that can fight off certain illnesses.
Now a new study, published this week in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, finds that eating a diverse diet of veggies and fruit can decrease your risk of developing lung cancer, especially if you are a smoker.
Scientists from The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, The Netherlands, used data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study and focused on the 452,187 participants' health information. Of these participants, 1,613 had a diagnosis of lung cancer.
Researchers compared participants' diets and noted their consumption of fruit and vegetables, which came in a variety of fresh, canned or dried products. Previous studies had shown that the quantity of vegetables and fruits an individual consumed could decrease risk of lung cancer, in particular the risk of one specific type of lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma. The new studies found that regardless of the amount, the risk of lung cancer also decreased when a variety of vegetables and fruits were consumed. In addition, the risk of squamous cell carcinoma, which is common in smokers, decreased substantially when a variety of fruit and vegetables were eaten.
"Although quitting smoking is the most important preventive action in reducing lung cancer risk, consuming a mix of different types of fruit and vegetables may also reduce risk, independent of the amount, especially among smokers," said Dr. H. Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita, project director of cancer epidemiology at The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, The Netherlands.
Researchers say this is the first study to look at how a wide range diet of fruit and vegetables can affect lung cancer. They believe their data support the theory that produce in all forms has bioactive ingredients that fight certain illnesses, including some cancers.
"The results are very interesting and demonstrate a protective effect in smokers. There are still over a billion smokers in the world, and many are addicted to nicotine and cannot stop in spite of their best efforts," added Hecht, who is the Wallin Land Grant Professor of Cancer Prevention at the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota. "Tobacco smoke contains a complex mixture of cancer causing agents. Therefore, a mixture of protective agents is needed to have any beneficial effect in reducing one's chance of lung cancer."
But Hecht also noted, "Nevertheless, the public should be made aware and be reminded that the only proven way to reduce your risk for lung cancer is to avoid tobacco in all its forms," he said.
The American Cancer Society agrees. Although its doctors note that the statistics are interesting and worthy of more research, the society stresses, "The best way to avoid developing lung cancer is to never smoke, or quit the habit altogether."

PEMRA bars TV channels from airing Mathira's contraceptive ad

Following scores of complaints against a TV advertisement on contraceptives, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Tuesday ordered all TV channels to immediately stop its broadcast.
In a letter written to the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), Pemra pointed out that the advertisement was generally “perceived as indecent, immoral and in sheer disregard to our socio-cultural and religious values.”
“Airing of such immoral advertisement on Pakistani channels and that too in Ramazan warrants serious action,” Pemra
spokesperson Fakharuddin Mughal said.
Pemra argued that regardless of public complaints, the content of the advertisement contravenes not just the Pemra Act 2007 but also the constitution of the country.
As a result of this order, the PBA has directed its member TV channels against airing the advertisement.
Josh condoms are marketed in Pakistan by DKT International, a US-based non-profit organisation that works to promote family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention in the developing world.
The 50-second advertisement stars model and actress Mathira as a newlywed bride who makes a neighbouring couple jealous by pampering her husband who uses Josh condoms
